Idaho Potatoes $1.99 5 Lb. Bag in Associated Supermarkets.

Potatoes are a necessity in my house. Not only are potatoes easy to cook as a main dish, they can also be served as a delicious side. In addition, when cooking Indian food there are multiple ways to cook potatoes, and each dish has a unique and distinct flavour. Coupling potatoes with another vegetable, meat or lentil is another fantastic way to serve this versatile vegetable.
Cooking Tip: Added too much salt to a curry dish? Add peeled and chopped potatoes to the curry and cook. While serving you can either remove the potatoes or keep it – depending on the dish.

Ronzoni Pasta 88¢ (Excludes Lasagna, Manicotti, Jumbo Shells and Gluten Free) at Food Basics, Assorted Varieties 9-16 oz. At Met Food Markets you can buy Cento Anna Pasta 99¢ for a 16 oz packet.

Pasta is such an effortless meal to put together on busy weeknights. Especially with a variety of pasta sauces available for a reasonable price in supermarkets all it takes is a little bit of tweaking to make the pasta taste homemade. Some tricks that I personally follow when making red sauce pasta is to stir fry onions, garlic  and , at times, mushrooms in a bit of olive oil or butter before adding the pasta sauce to give the sauce an extra oomph. I also experiment with adding semi fried sausages to the sauce, and always always add additional seasoning in the end. My house has a high tolerance for chilli’s so there is always a generous helping of red pepper, and besides that garnish with dry basil, sprinkle some cheese or anything you think will enhance the taste.

And, hey I must be doing it right because as I browsed though some articles on the internet these are the very suggestions they had to offer!

Barilla Lasagne $1.48 9-16 oz at Met Foods.

I tried to make lasagne at home following the, deceptively, simple lasagne noodles recipe. Long story shortit was a complete disaster. The noodles came out hard and unappetizing. I’m still not sure where I went wrong as I was following the recipe as closely as I could. But I’m sure I did go very wrong somewhere as her final product is way more appealing that what I produced. Till the time I can muster enough courage to make homemade lasagne again, it is store bought ready made lasagne for this house.
